Entrance Hall, West(#1693RHXnt)
The Entry Hall is quite broad, and broadens out further to the east into a
great open space. A stairway going up can be seen in that direction. The great
doors lie propped against the inner walls here, and there are many carvings
and decorations on both these and the walls themselves. Lanterns glowing with
a steady light hang near the ceiling, but they don't seem to produce any
smoke. There are many other things hanging on the walls, including tapestries
depicting ancient heroes and ancient but functional weapons. Two large
doorways lead into great halls here. One to the north and one to the south.
Contents:
Petra
Eldrick
Obvious exits:
East leads to Entrance Hall, East.
 West leads to Front Porch.
Southern Door leads to Elrond's Hall.
Northern Door leads to Hall of Fire.

Petra is standing near the entrance to the Hall of Fire, looking at Eldrick as
he walks toward her.

Elladan walks silently down the hall from the garden, his arms clasped behind
his back, chin lifted proudly.

Elladan slows as he approaches the dunedain. "Well met, Eldrick. It has been a
while, has it not?"

Eldrick turns as he hears someone enter. He spots Elladan and nods after hey
speaks, "Aye... That it has. Longer than I would have liked though, for I
can't say that my travels since I last saw you have been all that good." He
motions to his arm, hanging in its sling and smiles.

Eldrick: Before you stands a tall figure, well built in stature
and more than imposing in height, covered in a new looking, heavy, dark
grey travellers cloak. It comes down to a bit past his ankles and is
securely fastened to his left shoulder with a silver rayed star shaped
broach. There is a hood attatched to the neck of the cloak, but it is
currently pulled back about his neck. Beneath the cloak he wears brown
trausers tucked into long black leather riding boots. The trausers are
held to his waist with a brown leather belt of simple design and a steel
buckle. On this belt at his left hip is a small leather pouch with some
unknown inventory. His tunic is dark green and of simple design. The
collar of his white shirt can be seen peeking through at the neck of the
tunic, and across his chest is the strap to a knapsack or backpack that
is covered from sight.
His skin is a darker shade of brown than most, probably from prolonged
exposure to the sun. His hair is short, about to four inches at the longest,
and a dark shade of brown, with lighter highlights at the front. And finally,
his eyes. Dark grey and mysterious, they stare intently and seem very alert.
His cloak is drawn over him, but has a large tear in the left shoulder which
has been hastily repair. Under the cloak can be seen fleeting glimpses of
white bandages, which are, at the edges, soaked with blood. The man does not
smile, and seems to be in pain whenever he moves, whincing whenever he does
so. His right arm is in a sling, and seems very limp.

Petra turns at the voice, and smiles as her eyes meet an Elf. She bows. "Mae
govannen."

Elladan smiles gently at the man, his eyes lingering on the signs of struggle.
"So I have heard. And..." he pauses, taking a moment to return Petra's
greeting witha subtle nod, "...I should like to hear more of this affair, at
your leisure."

"That should not be a problem," Eldrick says, nodding to Elladan, "My sword
arm is in no shape for traveling, so I'm afraid I'm grounded in the valley
until I am better."

"Ah!" The tall figure laughs. "Your loss of freedom is thus our gain of
company."

Petra laughs softly.

Petra:
Standing six feet three inches (191cm) in height, Petra is a tall,
slender and perfectly sculpted elf maid. Her milk-white skin is smooth as
cream and clear as moonlight. The soft silver glow of the stars caresses her
lovingly, and renders her ethereal; she is a vision, a dream. Her figure is a
dancer's, supple and long-limbed, and she moves with practiced, effortless
grace. Her feet only appear to touch the ground out of courtesy.
Her thick, straight copper hair tumbles luxuriantly down her back,
occasionally parting to reveal a delicately shaped ear. It weaves the light of
the stars into a soft red halo around her. Her large, limpid mahogany eyes are
all innocent joy, and a lovely smile untarnished by time or sadness sets her
regally beautiful face aglow.
A voluminous cloak, now grey, now white, now black, billows around
her. It is fastened just below her throat by a round brooch. Fastened to her
cloak above her heart is a magnificent water lily, surrounded by a shower of
babies' breath. She is wearing a billowy white silk blouse, collared and
long-sleeved, which is belted at her waist by an emerald green cummerbund.
Crushed silk hose, colored rust, sheath her long legs. A pair of open-toed
sandals elaborately woven into a rose pattern coddle her feet. A slender ring
of mithril graces her left hand.

Eldrick smiles and nods, "And good company it is... But many affairs tug at my
path, and I have more places to go than feet to take me there. This short
vacation is a bit of a blessing in surprise, I suppose."

"I suppose." Elladan glances now at the elfmaid, seeming to truly mark her
for the first time. "And what of you? Yours is a face I do not recall."

Petra smiles. "I am Petra Elethin, a Diplomat of the Golden Wood. I am honored
to meet you."

Elladan again dips his head slightly at the greeting, then arches a brow.
"Arrived of late from Lothlorien? Or have you been in our attendence for a
while?" He grins almost sheepishly. "You see, I have been much removed
from my father's House of late."

Petra grins. "Aye, I have been enjoying the hospitality of the house for nigh
on two weeks now, in fact. Truly, 'tis delightful here."

Angatir comes in from outdoors and nods to those assembled here, "Mae
Govannen.." He grins at Eldrick and nods to Elladan and Petra.

Petra nods to Angatir. "Mae govannen."

Eldrick notices Angatir and nods to him, "Greetings kinsman."

Elladan smiles, pleased at the compliment of the hospitality. "Thank you. I
shall make mention of your approval to our Herranur."

Angatir smiles and quietly stands next to Eldrick listening trying to find the
conversations direction.

Elladan hears the newest voice and turns. "Ah...now there is a sign of troube
as certain as a crow or carrion bird. Angatir, why have you again imposed your
odious self upon us?" If the words are cruel, the smile and mirthful tone
more than sets them at naught; it is clear Elladan jests.

Angatir laughs and says, "I thought not but to see how quickly I could drive
you forth from the valley so I might enjoy it's pleasures without your racous
cries resounding upon my ears. I seem to have mistimed my visit then." Angatir
smiles at Elladan as he banters. "I bear though no ill news.

Eldrick smiles after Elladan's remark and turns to Angatir as well, "So
Angatir... We leave the valley together some time ago, and I find you here
before me. What have you been up to these past few weeks?"

Elladan lifts his voice into a haughty laugh. "Indeed you have. I am freshly
returned from numeriador. you seem to have driven off my brother, though. So
you have but half the grief to suffer."

Angatir grins at Eldrick and chuckles, "Actually I've only been back for a few
days I must have been just a few days a head of you as I only arrived three
days ago myself. Indeed, I've been doing naught but walking." Angatir turns to
Elladan again with a chuckle and nods, "I had heard you brother was gone but I
hadn't learned you had returned, or I might have tried harder to stay away,
for how anyone could put up with you berating for any length of time is beyond
me."

Elladan smiles pertly, not contesting Angatir's last allegation.

Petra watches the exchange with interest.

Elladan turns back to Petra, having bantered Angatir to an impasse. "What has
passed of late in the Golden Wood?"

Petra cocks her head. "Mostly deliberation over the grim news from the Misties
and from our neighbors in Rhovanion. The Lady has been in high spirits of
late, however, and that is most of the reason that I am here."

Elladan cocks his head slightly, growing more serious. "Indeed? Do, say on."

Petra becomes poker-faced, and her voice levels to an clear and even tone.
"The Shadow moves. Moria has greatly swelled with reinforcements from the
south, and Mirkwood and the Beornings are beseiged."

Angatir blinks and says, "Again?"

Eldrick looks at Petra as she speaks, but having heard the information himself
already he looks then to Elladan to perhaps see his reaction or comment.

Elladan nods, his own face inscruitable. "I trust you have delivered this
message also to my father, Lord of this House?"

Petra nods. "Aye." She summarizes for Angatir. "Rhovanion swarms with the
legions of the Enemy."

Elladan seems to have taken in the disturbing news well enough. Either he is
accustomed to dark tidings, or he knew of this before petra spoke of it.

Petra's telling seems to be automatic.

Angatir frowns and says, "I had heard that not more than 3 years back it had
happened. I hoped the enemy wouldn't be able to find the forces to do so again
so quickly. There was even talk then that the dark riders had been amongst the
hosts. Are there any rumors like this now?"

Eldrick becomes a bit more grim. He looks down a bit and says something to no
one in particular, "Tis a shame that I soon must be off to that area..."

Petra looks at Angatir. "There are no such rumors." She pauses. "There are
first-hand accounts."

Angatir looks at Elladan, serious, and says, "It was a close thing the
last time the yrch surrounded the beornings. I remember your father was
unable to send help because we were facing a threat here at the time, do
you think he will send help this time to them? Can he afford to? If the
orcs try and cut off Imladris like they almost did that last time?"

Elladan sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger
of his right hand. "This sets all of our diplomacy from yesteryear at naught,
I am certain."

Petra looks curiously at Elladan.

Eldrick is silent, being in the west at the time of the last trouble from the
Misties.

Angatir nods, "We must respond quickly, the men of the Vale of Anduin suffered
griveiously when last they met the black riders and their hosts. Even
thranduil's hosts met difficulty."

Elladan answers Angatir, ignoring Petra's questioning look. "Aid we can send,
for we are ever willing to hazard a force for our kin...the question is how
mighty a force we can field. We have our own troubles to look towards."

Angatir nods and says, "Indeed, the question is always how mighty."
Angatir smiles and says, "Too small a force would just be bait for a trap
and wiped out.

Petra nods to Angatir.

Angatir says, "Too large a force would leave Imladris too undefended.."

Elladan taps his chin, thinking. "Indeed."

Eldrick nods to Angatir, "That is always to question... Many battles are lost
from ill planning."

Angatir frowns slightly and says, "Does your father or you have knowledge of
whether the high pass is clear of orcish hosts? That information is going to
be necessary for the decision, because if it's not, our efforts to send help
may be rebuffed."

Petra smirks. "I can tell you from bitter and recent experience that the High
Pass is not safe at all."

Eldrick nods after Angatir's statement and looks to Elladan, "I would also
like to know such knowledge, for I will soon be leading a hoarde of westerners
across the pass..."

Angatir looks at Petra and sighs, "Then the force going can not be too small,
or it will be ambushed.."

"Most likely it is not clear." Elladan answers. The diplomacy I spoke of
was encouraging the Beornings to lend us aid in securing the pass...if
they are as hard pressed as we believe, I doubt they can spare many
swords for that task."

Petra nods. "Indeed, were it not for Thranduil's efforts, they would be chased
from their homes altogether."

Elladan continues. "Our own Tirith have encountred many orcs to the
east...although we know not the exact state of the pass."

Angatir nods to Elladan, "Indeed.. We need to move quickly then, but securely.
The Tirith, are many of your warriors about or gone?"

Petra turns to Elladan. "Our party was ambushed by perhaps a hundred of the
foul things, not two days' journey from your Valley."

Elladan shrugs noncomittally. "We could raise a force of a hundred elves at
need....but it would well-nigh empty the valley."

Eldrick listens to the conversations then responds, "Do you know of any other
pass across the mountains that IS safe, Elladan?"

Angatir looks at Elladan and sighs, "You will need to raise a force, might I
suggest at least informing the tirith of a major encounter.."

Petra sighs at Eldrick's question, but remains silent as she was not addressed.

Angatir looks at Eldrick and smiles, "Can we be sure any pass would be safe
across the mountains? If any one of them isn't the rest most likely are not."

Eldrick nods solemnly to Angatir and says nothing in response.

"All passages are perilous," Elladan says firmly. "It is a question of which
is least-so. I know little of the paths to the north. Andrath we speak of, and
it is perilous indeed...Caradhras might be passable, though."

Petra shakes her head. "Twas not when we set out."

Elladan arches a brow. "Yrch? Or snow?"

Angatir looks at Petra and sighs, "Your party may have to wait Eldrick, indeed
we may have need to ask you to come with us."

Petra looks at Angatir. "We will consider that possibility."

Eldrick says, "I must wait to be healed enough to swing a sword, first..."

Eldrick says to Angatir. "And by that time we will be ready to move the
refugees to the new village.""

Elladan remains quiet for a moment, watching Petra questioningly.

Angatir looks at Eldrick and smiles, "True.. We need to inform Halbarad of
this development as well, any threat to the beornings is a threat to the high
pass. And we need to help them if we may."

Petra returns Elladan's look with a wan smile.

Eldrick says, "I agree Angatir, Perhaps if Halbarad ever returns from Bree we
may discuss it with him."

Elladan slowly arches an eyebrow at the smile, remaining silent.

Angatir chuckles and says softly, "We are not very prepared for something of
this nature.. (To eldrick) Many of us are not back from Bree.. I fear our
choices may be limited and we may have to act to some degree without
Halbarad's knowledge and merely hope he learns of the danger."

Mirwen walks into the House airily and proceeds to traverse the Hall with an
energetic stride. Seeing the grim company, she slows down a little, head
tilting in curiosity.

Elladan's attention still lingers upon Petra...perhaps uncomfortably so. His
gaze does not waver from her face.

Eldrick nods to Angatir, "I agree... But as you said, many of us are not back
from Bree. The Passes are important to the safety of the west, and I think
there should be a few more of us here to help in the effort."

Angatir looks to Elladan and says, "Well, I guess you and I shall have to put
up with each other for a little bit longer, if possible, could I be inlcuded
in your councils until Halbarad or another of our elders shows up. SO that
they may be informed as to the whole situation?"

Petra slowly turns to face Elladan, her face going from aloof to a courteous
smile as she does so. She walks slowly over toward the lord.

"I suppose we must, Angatir," Elladan answers. he does not look at the man to
whom he speaks, however. He watches as petra approaches, his expression moving
from stoicism to _almost_-amused interest.

Petra stops, and smiles. Quietly, she says, "Is there something you wished to
ask of me, Hir?"

As her eyes sweep over the gathering, Mirwen's interest is first sparked by
Petra and Elladan, and then by the two humans and their rugged appearance. She
lingers for a moment to watch.

Elladan nods slowly. "I would have my answer."

Angatir glances up and now sees Mirwen, he smiles and says, "Mae Govannen
Mirwen."

Petra grins. "I would have your question, if it pleases you."

Eldrick glances from across the room at Mirwen. He says nothing, but politely
nods and smiles.

Petra has her attention upon Elladan for the moment.

The brightests of smiles greets Angatir. "Mae govonnen, mellon... please,
don't let me interrupt anything..." she says softly.

Elladan does not grin. "I had, if memory serves, asked you what prevented your
passage of Cirith Caradhras. Perhaps you were distracted by our companions
here. I am certain that you did not intend to ignore me."

Angatir chuckles and says, "Not interupting much."

Petra looks quite taken aback. "Oh! I am sorry! I must not have heard it." She
blushes and steps back. Quickly, and clearly, she says, "We scouted the pass
and found an entire army of yrch, flying the banner of the Eye, encamped upon
it."

Petra then looks down abruptly, still blushed.

Mirwen raises an eyebrow at Angatir's remark, and her varicolored gaze
flickers to Elladan and Petra. She folds her arms with a thin smile, watching.

Elladan nods slowly, as much pleased by the abashed response as he is
disturbed by the tidings. "Well then...we shall be certain to keep Caradhras
in mind as places not to visit willingly."

Petra nods quickly, still unable to look up. "That would be wise, Hir."

Elladan continues graciously, "Thank you, Petra, for the intelligence."

Angatir nods and says, "That is ill news indeed, I think your father may not
be able to send as many troops as he'd like. It's likely that this is the same
move the Yrch tried three years back. It fits almost the same pattern, except
we here are not able to send any help over the mountains at all."

Petra manages to say "At your service, Hir." She looks at the floor, unmoving,
until the color begins to climb back down from her brow, to her cheeks,
finally draining away under the collar of her cloak.

Elladan addresses Angatir's point. "Something must be done. Perhaps it is time
to force a passage of Andrath. We have endured this quite long enough, if you
ask me."

Eldrick breaks his long silence by finally speaking up, he doesn't seem quite
as cheerful as he was earlier, "This seems to be a very evil proly on the side
of the Yrch. All passes across the mountains blocked, and riders abroad in the
Vales of the Anduin. Seems to be that an assualt is emminant, and they are
cutting off all hopes of reenforcements."

Angatir smiles and says, "I think that is wise.."

For a brief instant, Mirwen purses her lips as she notes the dour words being
spoken, but then her mouth re-settles in a smile, sparked by some inner
amusement. With a shake of her head, she quietly turns away and continues on
her way.

Mirwen heads east down the hall.
Mirwen has left.

Angatir nods and says, "I have a feeling it is a major assualt for if they can
close the passes to us they can weaken us, and if they can eliminate the
beornings, we will find it very difficult to keep the passes open from this
side alone."

Petra says, "Radagast reported that there were 5 of the black riders in Moria,
but that was some months ago. Riders have been spotted in Mirkwood, and one
was seen in the assault on the Beorning's village."

Eldrick nods to Petra, seeing how it fits into his comment about a major
offensive.

Angatir blinks and says, "Five??? There were only 2 the last time they did
this. And those two alone nearly slayed Thranduil and Grimbeorn. Halbarad was
sorely tested then as well and wounded gravely in the last battle to drive the
yrch forth."

Elladan nods, almost not listening. "Still...we must guard our losses. Where
orcs multiply like birds in the spring, elves dwindle year by year. Our losses
will not be replaced. I would weep long to lose even a single elf in this
affray."

"There was one found in Fornost when we fought the Wyrm," Eldrick interjects,
"If it was not for Radagast our entire party would have been lost between the
two great foes."

The blood starts draining from Petra's face, and she says very quietly, "I
suppose you have not heard about the Eagles?"

Petra looks around the company apprehensively..

Angatir looks at Elladan and says, "Then I suggest we send forth a very small
party to scout the orcs and deteremine how best to battle them." Angatir turns
to look at Petra and his eyes look worried, "The eagles??"

Angatir says, "What harm has befallen our great allies of the sky?"

Elladan shakes hsi head, watching Petra intently.

Eldrick shakes his head as well, curiously looking at Petra.

Petra almost whispers, "Yrch braved the eyries and stole their eggs. The Lady
believes that the Riders are attempting some black perversion of our winged
allies."

Angatir looks at Elladan and says softly, "We must find those eggs first."

Elladan's face blanches. " What response have the Lords of the Air
made?"

Pooter walks into the room with a smile on his face and walks towards the
group when he sees Petra and Eldrick

Petra shakes her head sadly at Angatir. "This was months past."

You say, "we have been speaking sindarin the whole time."

The four are grimly speaking and tension hangs in the air.

Eldrick's expression seems grim, " The more and more you speak the
more you reveal Petra... Is there anything else you know that should be told?
If so, I suggest telling now."

Petra says in Sindarin, "The Eagles enlisted our aid, and Thranduil's, but it
was for naught."

Eldrick turns and notices Pooter arrive, he nods to him, but smiles not and
quickly turns back to Petra for a response.

Pooter stops short of the group and hangs back some but within earshot for he
sees the expressions on the peoples face are not of joy

Angatir says in Sindarin, "This bodes well not at all. We must see if we can
not find where they are keeping the eggs and free them. The black riders must
not be allowed to keep them and pervert those noble creatures."

Petra turns to Eldrick, her expression very grave. " Shall I ignore
the insinuation behind that remark, mellon?"

Eldrick says in Sindarin, "I mean no insult... I would just like to know all
that there is to this situation. Perhaps piece this puzzle together.""

Petra sighs. " This happened months ago. We could not find the eggs,
and there are accounts, which have not yet been confirmed, that their sorcery
is completed and there is nothing we can do."

Pooter sees he is not wanted in the conversation and moves to the wall and
sits at a bench.

Eldrick nods and thinks of some of the evil possibilities, " Riders
are an evil omen... but Riders in the air? I cannot comprehend what kinds of
evil that would mean."

Petra shrugs. " Except, perhaps, to find and slay these mockeries of
the Air-Lords."

Petra nods grimly to Eldrick.

Angatir says in Sindarin, "If the orcs are abroad though we may yet be able to
at least learn if their devilry worked and stop it or at least learn what it
was meant."

Petra turns quickly to Elladan. " Please, tarry a moment. I would
speak with you."

Eldrick nods after Elladan's commanding words. He crosses his arms and stands
stone and silent.

Angatir says in Sindarin, "Elladan I would follow you if you leave to gather
more info. Keep me updated and find me if so that I can help in whatever way I
may."

Elladan shakes his head, setting his jaw. " Enough of this." He
seems to speak more on the entire conversation, not just the slightly
heated words that just passed between Petra and Eldrick. " I go
to seek out my father, to see what he has to say on this matter. It is
true he is wise...but at times he tarries long to act, in my considered
opinion."

Elladan nods to Angatir. " I will seek you out when I have
spoken with him."

Elladan inclines his head towards the Elrond's Hall. " You
wished a word, Petra?"

Eldrick, seeing that this conversation is over, steps back and then heads over
to Pooter. He dawns a half smile and says to the man, "Greetings Pooter. How
have you been since I last saw you?"

Petra nods. " Aye, if you would."

Angatir turns, "I must go. If you'll excuse me."

Angatir says, "Until later."

Eldrick turns and says to Angatir, "If you are free later Angatir, I may wish
a word with you... In the camp."

Angatir nods and says, "Indeed."

Elladan nods and steps to the door, holding it open for the elfmaid to pass
through.

Petra walks through the large doorway to the south.
Petra has left.

Elladan follows, the door swinging shut behind him.

Elrond's Hall(#2252RDHXt)
This is a large hall, filled with many broad tables and plenty of seats for
each. The fine woodwork of the tables, chairs, and beams of the ceiling is
elegantly carven with scrollwork and flourishes. Against a wall, at the end of
one of the larger tables, is a dais with three especially large chairs
slightly raised above the others. The central one is presumably for Elrond,
and the other two for other dignitaries. Several other smaller dais are placed
around the hall. Intricate tapestries woven with elven calligraphy hang on the
walls and dais platforms. In the south wall is a large window overlooking the
gardens and the Bruinen river beyond.

Petra looks around, taking in the sight for the first time. When the door
closes, she turns around to Elladan, and her look is... happy.

Elladan follows behind Petra. letting the door swing shut on its own.

Petra says, "I mentioned earlier that the Lady was in high spirits. This might
seem strange right after our conversation, but she has extended an invitation
to you to visit her."

Petra smiles warmly, but she looks a little unsure of how this will be taken.

Elladan lifts a brow. "Indeed?" he purses his lips in thought. "What prompts
these high spirits, and the gracious invitation?"

Petra smiles. "I do not know her ways, Hir. I only do her bidding. But she is
Wise, and I am sure that she has her reasons."

"An invitation from one such as her, be she kin or no, is not easily refused."
Elladan smiles. "I assume this invite extends to my brother as well? And
whatever retainers we normally employ?"

Petra nods. "Of course! She has invited all of her grandchildren to come. And
you may bring whatever company you see fit."

Elladan's face clouds for a brief moment. "I had thought to tarry there
while we sought out the orcs in Rhovanion...but if Arwen is to go, i
would not willingly take her into danger. We shall have to see about the
passage of the Mountains ere we even consider faring to Lorien."

Petra nods, frowning. Recovering a pleasant mien, she says, "We will be taking
the high pass. 'Tis risky, but it is also the safest option."

Elladan arches both brows, questioningly. "We? Are you, then, to be our
escort?" His tone indicates that he finds this...odd. It is unclear if he is
amused or displeased.

"We, because I did not travel here alone." Petra smiles. "You may of course
leave when you will, with whatever escort you choose. We would be happy to
have you accompany us back, but you are not by any means compelled."

Elladan considers that. "I will certainly take advantage of Galadriel's
gracious invite...and I will appraise you of my travel plans once I have had a
while to dwell upon them."

Elladan tone indicates a sort of dismissal, albiet a kind one.

Petra nods. "Very well. I will await your word. And if you have need of me, I
will be in the Garden, or the Galadhrim quarters."

Petra curtsies. "'Twas an honor, Hir. I only wish we had met on a more
cheerful occasion."

Elladan nods kindly. "Indeed...well met, Galadhrim."
